Tis the Season ...

for left-overs and taking down the decorations!

I'm slowly getting through most of the left-overs from the
Christmas Holidays and am afraid some of the cookies etc.
are already too stale to use up!

One of my favourite left-over meat recipes is one that I learned
in my high school Home Economics class - simple and delicious!

Savoury Meat Pie
(aka - glorified left-overs)

1/4 Cup chopped onion and
2 Tbsp. chopped pepper (gr. or red)
Sauted in some butter till tender.
2 Cups diced cooked meat (this time I used left-over beef roast)
2 Cups cooked vegetables - diced or sweet peas, mushrooms or corn, etc.
1 1/2 Cups well seasoned gravy thinned with milk or stock.
Stir it all together and pour it into a 2-qt. casserole dish.

Pop it in the oven for 15 minutes at 425F
Remove from oven and cover it up with your favourite biscuit dough.
Cut a few slits in the top for the steam to escape.

Bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes till golden brown and bubbling - delicious!

The decorations are down and now the house seems so empty - sigh!

It's been another wonderful Christmas and a brand new year is ahead.
I shall leave some of the candles around the house for a while to
remind me of the light of Christmas and what it means.

Have you put away all of your decorations already?

I have chosen a verse for 2015:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23

Till next time .......... stay warm and happy!

  2. That meal does look yummy! I don't have any left-over beef, but I could get some! =D

Any decoration that looks like winter has stayed out. And I even have a winter tree. It is only a small one, but like your candles, adds a bit of cheer on these long winter evenings.

Your home looks cozy in all seasons...lovely.

  3. Sounds delicious, Rosella! Nice and hearty on a cold winter night. It took me about 5 minutes to put away my few Hanukkah decorations, lol. Your home looks so warm and cozy!

  4. Bill finally took down our outside wreaths and cedar roping today---fit it in between the bitter cold of last week and the ice storms of this week! He'd be a huge fan of your meat pie---what a terrific way to repurpose leftovers!

  8. I'm with Kathy! And I always feel sad to put away the lights and things.. I've left the garland and lights up in my kitchen for now.
What does it matter? It is so cozy looking in the evenings?

  9. I'm feeling hungry right now...but I can't complain...i have fresh buns and soup on the go. It's fun to have family pick up a few care packages. Yes, some of my decor is down...but a few things stay till the end of Feb....just to help us stay in the festive mood for celebrating birthdays.

  10. That's my kind of supper, Rosella! When I cook a roast of any kind I always make a meal later in the week from the leftover gravy, meat and vegetables - I just put it all in a pie crust. It's everyone's favourite.
Your house looks so pretty with all the Christmas lights. I think the candles will help you make the transition!

  11. Rosella,
Visiting you this morning and wishing I had a slice of this delicious meat pie for breakfast! I had way too many sugar cookies over
Christmas-but no regrets because I enjoyed them so much!
I have been lighting more candles this year, for the very reason you mentioned, remembering what the meaning is behind it all and I find them so very comforting too.
Thank you for visiting me, I am thankful to have met you and that you are following along on the journey of living this
    beautiful life with Passion.
