Fried Apples

I'm always thinking about
what to make for supper on
the way home from work!
Can you tell - I don't plan ahead too much?

When nothing comes to mind,
I like to stop in Wellesley at the little
grocery Pym's and pick up
something quick like schnitzel or sausage.

Nothing tastes better with schnitzel
than some warmed apple sauce
best of all ....
Mom's Fried Apples - so easy and delicious
and no recipe required!!

Here's how you make them:
Just halve, peel and core some apples,
wet them with some water,
toss them in some flour,
melt a pad of butter in a saucepan/frypan,
place those "dusted" apples onto the melted butter,
fill each core hole with a touch of brown sugar,
and a sprinkle of cinnamon

Cover and fry gently till tender,
adding a splash of water if needed
and voila ... you have a great side dish to schnitzel.
Easy Peasy!

Did your mom ever make
fried apples?

Till next time ...... just a few more sleeps!!

  1. Ok, I don't know what happened but my first comment got lost somewhere. Maybe for a good reason.
I love planning meals like that...on the fly.
How wonderful to be anticipating the arrival of your loved ones!

  2. Yes, minus the sugars and flour. She served them with pork chops. Yours sound very, very good.

  3. I have never had fried apples, but any apple cooked with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon must be delicious!

  4. I'm always planning dinner at the last minute. No, my mom never made fried apples, just baked. But I'd much rather have them fried...yum, sounds so good! I do love some kind of apples as a side to pork chops. Yum!

  5. Hi, new follower here. I had to look up 'schnitzel. I never had that in Texas or in the Midwest where I live now. We have a pork tenderloin that sounds awfully close though. I love fried apples. Sounds like delicious comfort food. :D

  6. I've never heard of fried apples, but I know I would like them. Anything apple goes so well with pork.

  7. I've never heard of fried apples.. at least dusted with flour. I imagine it gives the apples a bit of a sauce right aways and it sounds tasty!

  8. Sounds perfect to me! I will come back here for your 'method' one day soon...and give fried apples a go over here.

  9. I like the sound of these, but have never had anything quite like them. Great idea!

  10. Mmmm....I love fried apples, but I usually make mine with slices. I love your larger version...especially with brown sugar! What a great dinner!

  11. Yes I have made fried apples..works with pears too, just make sure they are not too ripe! So yummy, I will be making them again real soon.

The patch is old, the berries are small but plentiful, the mosquitoes are hungry but a stiff breeze is keeping them at bay today! ...
