4 weeks till.....

It's 4 short weeks till Christmas eve - EEK!  I am not a fan of Winter but I DO love the Christmas Season.  I never seem to be quite ready for it, however, and am always scrambling at the last minute.  Outside decorating (i.e. window boxes etc.) is done.  Hubby still needs to put up the flood lights.  No decorating done inside as yet.  I like to do this when I have a whole day to work at it - I put on the Christmas music, have the Nuts 'n Bolts baking, and do some thorough cleaning as I go along.  Over the years I've started keeping things a little simpler - less is more in my opinion.  I even put up an artificial tree (I know that's a bit lame but it's just easier).  Tonight I went grocery shopping and started stocking up on baking needs.  I love Christmas baking.  Our favourite things are Nuts 'n Bolts, Caramel Popcorn, Mini Cherry Cheese Tarts, Peanut Butter squares, short bread cookies, Biscotti (done), Breton Brittle Bars, Nanimo Bars, etc.  It's also a time when our favourite appetizer recipes are pulled and made.  I will try to post some of these recipes over the next few weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American Friends.  Hope you had a wonderful day today!

All for now....

  1. I'm thinking there are similar traits here. I love nuts and bolts and tripled my recipe yesterday as they baked. Of course I had help from my little boys.
And I've adopted the same theme this year.
    Simplicity!!!

  2. Oh my goodness! I am giddy with excitement to have someone respond to my "blog". I'm just learning how to do this. You ladies at MGCC have SO inspired me in so many ways. I was thrilled to meet Anneliese and Lovella in Waterloo this past summer - have been following the blogs for some time and feel like I know some you personally!! We have our church Christmas pot-luck tonight and I just made Judy's Chow Mein Casserole and Anneliese's Cream Puff Dessert!!
I felt the need to blog as I am turning this huge corner in my life (or at least it seems huge right now).
Thanks so much for being my very first commenter. I can't wait to see how this all turns out. We'll walk this milestone together. Blessings!

  3. I remember your cherry cheesecake tarts - the kids loved them & requested I make them - but they were no where near as good as yours.

Hope for the Season

First Snow! November 14-16 held some "bench visits" with the Leis family, to commemorate that day/week 3 years ago! We miss him ...
