Changin' times

"For the times, they are a changin'..."

Bob Dylan's words are resonating with me these days.

So much has changed over these last 10 months
and yet, some things remain the same as always ...

We live in a different world now,
a restless world with an uncertain future.

Talk of a vaccine brings some light and hope.

The sunset view from our SW facing bay window is always a welcome sight
but I look at it differently these days.

Sunday mornings are not the same and we miss our church family.

Our comfy home remains much the same
but with no friends and neighbours to welcome in during these Covid days,
it seems somewhat empty.

We are thankful that
soon this home will be occupied by our grandchildren,
with their wonderful parents.
It won't be "Papa's house" anymore!?

This old farm has been our home and life for over 40 years
and there have been many needed changes made during that time.

The fields produced good crops as they usually do,
but an uneasy feeling comes over me about what the future holds
with climate change and economic hardships.

The offer to purchase our new home was written on 10.20.2020
It seems these special date numbers often have some extra special meaning for us?
Perhaps just to help us remember significant occasions.

This is the time for change, even though we don't seem quite ready for it.
Is there ever a "right" time?
There is excitement in the air,
but with the subdued feeling of SO much to be done.

Some corners are getting cleaned and packed - long, long overdue.
Trying to keep things normal, as much as possible, until after Christmas.
Decor has taken on a much more reserved approach this year.

Mom's China Cabinet - a treasured keepsake!

There have been many trips/donations to the Thrift Store and many
trips to the local dump - also, long overdue!

Christmas is just a few weeks away.
We will enjoy these last "Christmas at the Farm" days.

We pray that the young family will be successful in selling their home
and that the transition will be smooth.

We are more thankful than ever to know with certainty that God never changes!

Till next time - let us remember the real reason for the season and realize how incredibly blessed we are!

  1. Amen to everything...well, on little thing I'll leave out. What a precious photo of you grandparents with the grandchildren. It's going to be a wonderful life there on the farm.

  2. This brings back lots of memories of our trips to the dump and the donation stores with stuff we should have dealt with as the years went on before our move here. How wonderful that your grands will be living in your home and will continue making memories there. Your mom's china cabinet is really special. What a treasure indeed. You can do this and I'll pray that your kids can sell their home!

  3. I, too, remember those weeks (a very few weeks in our case!) of bagging up, boxing up, tossing out, donating, and gifting thirty-five years of accumulation in our old house. Change is tiring. Change is hard, both physically and emotionally. But change can be good! I pray that yours is very good!

  4. Well you know we had that kind of year last year and the beginning of this year - sorting everything, cleaning out 32 years of accumulated things and things the kids were still storing and things we were keeping for them etc etc. It feels so good to do it whie we can. My only small problem at times has been that I can visualize exactly where something was in the old house but I can't remember the new spot yet.
I wish you all the best. So good to know that family will be continuing the memories there. Wishing you a blessed and memorable Christmas!

    1. Yep. In our case, however, anything we were storing for our daughter can just stay here - lol! Along with lots of other things that they may or may not appreciate. I'm trying to pack boxes marked as to where and which cupboard things came from - hopefully will help me find things in the future? It's all good and we are looking forward to this adventure.

  5. We did much the same kind of move 16 years ago...leaving our farmhouse to the grandkids and their parents and moving to a new home nearby. We also left some antique furniture in the house for the kids...that had been in the family forever. Wishing you all the best as you sort and pack and settle in your new home!
